Spring upturn: Swiss commercial register records 13,453 new company formations in the first quarter of 2024

New registrations
Despite the slight decline compared to the previous month, 2024 starts with a lot of optimism, as an impressive 13,453 new start-ups were registered in Switzerland. In March 2024, we recorded 4,349 new companies, which represents a decline of 10 % compared to the previous month, but still indicates a vibrant economy.



Deletions
With 2,650 company deletions in March 2024, there was a 7% decrease compared to the previous month, reaching the lowest level for the year to date. This is particularly pleasing as the number of company deletions fell by 11% compared to the previous year. The last time such low deletion figures were recorded was in October 2023.

Mutations
16,158 mutations were registered in March 2024. This corresponds to a decrease of 8 % compared to the previous month and a decrease of 6 % compared to the previous year.

A total of 1,713 companies also decided to liquidate their company in March 2024. This represents a decrease of 9 % compared to the previous month.

Principality of Liechtenstein
In March 2024, the commercial register of the Principality of Liechtenstein recorded an increase of 29 % in new companies compared to the previous month, 72 new companies were founded. The number of deletions has increased significantly, by 45% compared to the previous month 77 deletions corresponds. The Liechtenstein commercial register also registered 1,071 Mutations in March 2024, representing a 16% increase from the previous month.
