Between 1 July and 30 September 2012, 27,500 new customers were acquired for the supplementary TV packages, whereby the number of corresponding new subscriptions rose to 118,000 this year. The total number of television subscribers rose by 5,000 to 1,506,800 households.
192,000 new subscribers in nine months
Moreover, the Internet as well as fixed-line telephony also contributed to the good result. In the third quarter of this year the number of Internet connections rose by 11,300 to 591,900. This means that soon 600,000 customers will be surfing the net using upc cablecom and this figure is set to rise since the company will soon be offering top speeds of 150 Mbit/s. upc cablecom has also grown in the area of telephony. The number of connections in this area rose by 16,300 between July and September this year to a total of 402,200.
This general growth is also illustrated in revenue, which rose by 4.8% or CHF 13.6 million in comparison to the third quarter in the previous year, reaching a total of CHF 298.2 million. For upc cablecom this is the largest year-on-year growth in revenue for the past three years.
This means that, since the beginning of the year, the number of subscribers with supplementary digital services for television, Internet or telephony has risen by 192,000 new customers. Such impressive growth in a mere nine months has never before been recorded by Switzerland's largest cable network company.
upc cablecom business exceeds the CHF 100 million mark
upc cablecom is also pleased to announce excellent results for the corporate customer segment: This year the CHF 100 million revenue mark has been exceeded. This department, which generated around 250 new customers from the small and medium sized companies sector each month, was the subject of positive headlines thanks to coming top once again in the Telecom Rating by BILANZ and winning some large tenders.
Eric Tveter cites several factors that have contributed to the general growth of his company. "We offer our customers outstanding products and first-class services," says the CEO of upc cablecom. "Word gets around and so increasing numbers of people want to have their digital television, Internet and telephone services supplied by us."
