Reading time: 2 minutesSwisscom is offering a bitstream access package to interested telecoms providers. Bitstream access (BSA) is a regulated service for high-speed data transmission, such as ADSL, for example.
In accordance with the requirements of the Telecommunications Act (FMG), the price for bitstream access has been calculated using the LRIC method. The LRIC method provides an incentive for new investment and protection of existing investments. Bitstream access costs CHF 11.40 per month (excluding EconomyLine and subscriber access lines). The prices are in the mid-range when compared with other European countries.
In order to tailor the package to requirements, Swisscom conducted various discussions with potential customers beforehand. Extensive preparations are still required for the technical implementation. According to the Telecommunications Act, Swisscom is obliged to offer bitstream access for four years.
Around two thirds of all lines are ready for unbundling
In addition to bitstream access, Swisscom has been offering its competitors attractive reseller packages for broadband services on a commercial basis for several years. As well as the competition with cable network operators and utility companies, Swisscom also competes for services with around 30 Internet providers. To date around 70,000 lines have already been completely unbundled throughout Switzerland. More than 65% of all lines are ready for unbundling.
