Reading time: 2 minutesRingier will take over the local radio station in Berne subject to approval by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Energy and Communication (UVEK). The successful program concept of Radio BE1 will not be changed; the station will continue in its present form under the current management and with the existing staff. With an audience of 103,300 in a license area of 348,000, Radio BE1 has clearly established itself as the leading private radio broadcaster in the Berne area. BE1 now offers the best music mix from the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s, plus news and information for a target audience between 15 and 49.
With this deal Ringier continues to expand its commitment in the area of electronic media. Radio BE1 is to serve a young and urban audience, just like in Zurich, where Ringier has owned a majority stake of Radio Energy since April of this year.
FPH will sell its shares in accordance with the new Federal Law on Radio and Television (LRTV), which allows a maximum of only two radio licenses per media company. As a majority shareholder of Radio Energy Zurich Ringier already owns one FM license. The license for a DAB program acquired in July 2007 through Radio Z AG will be returned, while DAB’s “Radio for Youngsters” will be transformed into a reportable program.
The takeover of Radio BE1 will be effective January 1, 2008. Details of the purchase price have not been disclosed.
