Reading time: 2 minutesThe German delegation will be welcomed personally by RUAG's Chief Executive Officer Toni J. Wicki, who is currently also interim CEO of RUAG Aerospace.
In Emmen, the delegation will be introduced to the RUAG group's activities before visiting various RUAG Aerospace facilities, particularly those where maintenance is carried out on F/A18 and F-5 jets, and Super Puma/Cougar helicopters. At its subsidiary in Oberpfaffenhofen in Germany, RUAG Aerospace maintains the Challenger VIP aircraft operated by the German Air Force for the Federal Government, as well as UH-1D military helicopters. RUAG employs around 1,800 people in Germany at its sites in Oberpfaffenhofen, Fürth and Wedel.
EADS, the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company, is one of the three potential suppliers for the new Swiss fighter aircraft as a partial replacement for the F-5 Tiger. Two Eurofighter jets are currently undergoing flight trials by armasuisse and the Swiss Air Force, with Emmen as base. RUAG holds a neutral stance as to which company will receive the contract for the F-5 Tiger partial replacement programme; the decision will be taken by armasuisse, the Swiss Air Force and, ultimately, the Swiss Government. With a view to becoming the Swiss centre of excellence for the new fighter aircraft as well, RUAG is currently equally engaged in discussions with all suppliers of the three possible candidates - Gripen, Rafale and Eurofighter.
