August 20, 2012, Orange has been pushing e-billing for years. E-bills are easy to use – both in terms of payment and filing – and are also particularly environmentally friendly. From 1 September 2012, Orange will therefore be adapting its existing practice further. Electronic invoices will remain free of charge. Orange will be offering a double bonus when people switch to e-billing. Firstly, cus-tomers that opt to change to e-bills will receive a credit of CHF 2.00 per bill for six months. In addition to this, for every customer that chooses e-billing, Orange will invest CHF 5.00 in other eco-friendly activities. Of course, Orange customers can still opt to receive paper bills. From 1 September, this will cost CHF 2.00 per month (CHF 5.00 for a detailed statement).

Orange sends over 9 million sheets of paper to customers every year in the form of phone bills. Over a period of five years, this corresponds to a forest of well over 600 trees. E-bills do not have to be trans-ported by motorbike or truck, which avoids CO2 emissions and saves forests. Electronic invoicing is therefore better for the environment than paper bills.

E-billing does not just save natural resources, it also helps reduce unnecessary costs. Orange uses these savings to further promote eco-friendly projects and sustainability initiatives, for example.

Since 2004, Orange has regularly staged campaigns to make electronic billing more attractive. These campaigns have proven very successful, and one in three customers now receives their monthly in-voices electronically (e-mail, e-bill, PostFinance).

With a view to making invoicing even more environmentally friendly and to further increase the use of e-billing, Orange will adopt current market practice as of 1 September 2012. Customers who choose to change to e-billing will receive their (detailed) bill free of charge. These customers will also receive a credit of CHF 2.00 on each e-bill for six months. From 1 September 2012, customers who would still prefer to receive their monthly bill in paper form will be charged CHF 2.00 per bill (CHF 5.00 per detailed statement).

Orange has long since been committed to eco-friendly and sustainable projects. For every customer who decides to receive their bill electronically and free of charge instead of a charged paper bill, Orange will invest CHF 5.00 in further internal and external environmental activities.

In the coming days, Orange will launch a wide-ranging information campaign to inform customers about these changes, which are aimed in particular at curbing the annual use of over 42 tons of paper and thus helping the environment.
