04.01.2023, Zurich - The fourth quarter of the Swiss commercial register has come to an end and can come up with quite positive figures. Both the comparisons of the previous month and the last ten years show pleasing results. Swiss companies can face up to the current global political problems and crises and show their strong and steadfast side.

The year 2022 ends with an annual high for start-ups. 4,897 new companies were founded, an increase of 18% compared to the previous month, when 4,166 new companies were registered. The year-on-year comparison shows only a minimal drop of 1% when there were 4,951 new entries. The year 2020 also had only 4% more new entries in December, although it must be mentioned that due to the corona pandemic at the time, many company decisions were made in the winter months.

If you look at the total number of new company start-ups in 2022, you can see that 50,015 new start-ups almost reached the record value of 2021 with a total of 50,545 start-ups. The difference here is only 1%. And by 2020, an increase of 7% can even be recorded.

If we look back a full ten years, the growth of the Swiss corporate landscape can be illustrated particularly well. A total of 39,371 new companies were founded in 2012, which is 27% fewer than in the current year 2022. A ten-year balance is therefore extremely positive and confirms our image of an active and productive Swiss economy this year and also in the past years.

deletions
The number of deletions has increased again this month and is now at 2,622. This is 16% more than in the previous month, when 2,251 deletions were registered. However, a look at the previous year puts these figures into perspective. In December 2021 2,610 deletions were made, a minimal increase of 0.5% and in December 2020 even 14% more company deletions were recorded. In general, a look at the annual deletion figures shows that deletions are currently at a rather low level and are stable, although company mutations and start-ups are increasing.

Total deletions have steadily decreased over the past three years. And the ten- year comparison also confirms these statements. In 2012, a total of 28,862 deletions were registered. This is 3% more than in 2022. The fact that deletions have fallen over the past ten years instead of rising is a very positive result and also speaks for the flourishing Swiss economy.

mutations
Just like the start-ups, the mutations can also come up with an annual high at the end of the year. In December 2022, 18,721 companies were mutated, which is a strong increase of 18% compared to November 2022, when 15,820 company mutations were registered. The comparison to 2021 also shows a slight increase of 2%. If we also look at the total annual figures here, it is noticeable that the mutations have risen steadily since 2017. The only exception is the year 2021, in which an unusually large number of mutations were made due to a change in the law. The ten-year comparison also shows a strong increase of 14% here.

Conclusion
The 2022 financial year was very successful for Swiss companies. With two highs for the year and stable deletion figures, Swiss companies have shown their strengths. They successfully defy the current crises and are not influenced by their effects.

Principality of Liechtenstein
The Principality of Liechtenstein can also close the year 2022 on a positive note. In December 2022 there were 98 start-ups. This is 24% more than in the previous month. Likewise, the mutations have increased significantly. 1,458 new mutations were recorded. A plus of 63% compared to the previous month. Only the deletion numbers give a small damper. With 102 deletions, these increased by 36% compared to the previous month. The commercial register numbers of Liechtenstein can be accessed at www.firmenbuch.li
